More Live Caricatures, trying new things.

Richard works at Henna...

I was trying to make the faces/expressons less symmetrical for the picture above and the one below... i don't know how successful i was... i need to take it way further.

This baby was adorable I was playing with new ways of drawing eyes.
This guy had a sweet face and was really excited about it.
A chatty couple... i need to be a little better at concentrating when i talk...this might have been a lot better if i wasn't talking so much...

I've been trying to make how i draw features as unique to each drawing as the features themselves... i like how i drew his nose.

Ed

In the chair...

Recently I've fallen in love with how awkward the chair is. I just let people sit there... i don't tell them to smile, or look a certain way... i love bored faces, scared faces, pleasant gazes, over excited smiles, and all the weird expressions in between. every expression is a piece of what it's like in the chair. having your caricature drawn is a unique experience, a whole production that people go out of their way, wait in line and pay a lot of money for. I believe that the experience of having your caricature drawn should reflect through the drawing. A live caricature is a multi layered cake. The caricaturist's job is to tickle your taste buds with every layer. countless people tell me every day how weird and awkward it is to sit in the chair; so i try every day to make that fact funny.

cottage doodles

I spend almost my entire summer drawing caricatures at wonderland, so I try every once in a while to escape to my parent's cottage for a couple days here and there. It's been a rather rainy summer so the bugs are going absolutely nuts so there are frogs and toads everywhere. Most of the toads are as big as house flies and if they didn't move because you were just about to step on them you might never find them. This one was bigger, about the size of a golf ball. I caught him and followed him around a bit with my pencil. After a while my toad got board with me so i decided to find a new subject. to my surprise i found a tree frog. This one absolutely refused to stay still it was about half an inch long and it would go three or four feet with every jump. it could stick to just about anything... so i had a bit of trouble keeping track of it.

Caricatures again

The first three here are from a couple weeks ago. I didn't upload them right away so i completely forgot they existed until i found them yesterday. All from the same family, they had interesting faces. I wish i could have another go, I feel like I've improved a lot since then.

The next three pictures are from this past Friday. i especially like the baby in the triple and the woman in the double.

These last two are from Saturday. I decided that I didn't really need any sleep the previous night so I showed up to work absolutely exhausted... its a wonder my ability to draw didn't suffer more. I really liked the girl with the pink hair, the colour might have woken me up a bit, on the other hand I kind of flubbed the guy. all I have to say about the very last one is: eyelashes.
