zoo animals

I went to the zoo again with a few caricaturists i work with and did some fun little drawings in my sketchbook. Here are a few of them:

Mr. Baboon.

Camel... the one with two humps and a cool hair doo

Dunkaroo (some passing kids called it that the last time I was there... there was also a prickly creature the kids were insisting was a pine cone. they kept repeating "dunkaroos and pine cones!!!")

The hyena was wondering around constantly and never kept any sort of pose for any period of time and was hidden from view or had his back turned... so i drew this more or less from memory. I rather like how i captured his character.

meerkats... I like the top middle one. It is pretty much my first impression of those little guys. Most of the time thats what they look like... sometimes the most simple quick drawing is the best representation of something.

Lacey...

The summer starts and I'm once again at wonderland doing live caricatures. Yesterday was cold and windy and it even rained a little. It was a long day. When I finally got home and warm I found this persons face on the drawing board. her name is Lacey and I did something funny to her face... hee hee... hee.

Sketch Jam!

Having won the jammy at the last sketch jam I chose the theme and picked the winner for this sketch jam. The theme was creatures and despite the fact that I could not compete because I was the judge I drew a couple creatures too.

This one is playing ball... its some sort of caterpillar-pig-rat...

some people emanate a need to be drawn. This guy (above) was one of them. all three sketchers at the table i was sitting at drew him.

I decided that I didn't really capture a very good likeness nor do I much like the first drawing (below) much at all... so I gave it another shot in my sketchbook (above). I am far more happy with this new sketch...

I enjoy the way people compose themselves when they draw. Their drawing faces, their posture, the intent and honesty... most of them look too serious however... drawing should really be more like peek-a-boo.


I finished a sketchbook while subway sketching... all the empty pages of my new sketchbook excites me...
